Hello and welcome to the first ever Concerning Hobbits Subscription Drive! For the month of October, I’ll be bugging you (gently, kindly) to please get one of those sweet sweet paid subscriptions if you are able. Why? Well, this is a small publication (and that’s fine) and to keep it viable and allow me to create more for you, including more free content, financial support is absolutely necessary.
I know not everyone can afford a paid subscription, which is why I try to publish as many free posts as possible. I also keep my subscription cheaper than average (and cheaper than what substack recomends). But the fact remains that we live in capitalism. I need your help to keep Concerning Hobbits afloat, and to add more cool stuff to it!
If you enjoy and value reading my work, I’m asking you to jump onboard! Whether you are subscribing for the first time, or upgrading to a paid subscription after being a free subscriber, it helps TREMENDOUSLY. A regular paid subscription is only $5 a month, or $45 per year! And if you are really flush and want to help out more, I’ve added a new “founding member” level you can subscribe at to lend even greater support to my work. And of course, please please please, take the time to share it with your friends who may like it as well.
At the moment, I am writing as much as I can, while making barely enouh to count. And hey, I like doing it!
But if you can help me meet my goal of 25 paid subscriptions by the end of this month, I can commit to writing at least 2 free and at least 2 paid posts every month (except in cases of illness, of course).
25 is not an outrageous goal! I believe we can get there! I believe you want this too, you want to read more about weird educational theories and the historical reasons behind why we do things the way we do. What happens if we fly by the 25 subscriber mark no problem? Don’t worry! I have stretch goals.
If you can help get Concerning Hobbits to 50 paid subscriptions this month, I can finally commit to at least 4 free and 4 paid posts each month. That’s basically two posts a week! That would be a dream come true, and a great way to bring even more of the weird stuff I can’t stop researching to you lovely people.
You might be thinking, “sure, we can probably do that! I’ve got friends and my friends are nerds. Surely we can come up with total subscribers, that’s easy!” And in that case, first of all one hundred thank yous! But also not to worry…
If we reach 75 total paid subscriptions in the month of October, all paid subscribers will recieve a discount code good for a whole year for any items in my shop. Sure, right now that’s only two things (oh did you not realize there was a second thing? I can wait while you go look) but I promise, over the course of the year, more cool stuff is coming.
And if we get to 100 total paid subscriptions this month, first of all, I will cry! And after I am done crying, I’ll send a free copy of my new Rhythm Guide to every single paid subscriber!
If you have read this far, thank you so much for sticking with me, whether you can help support this publication or not. I really hate money and wish that it wasn’t something we had to think about all the time, but I also live in the real world. When you support my work you are supporting a real life queer family with real life disabilities. You help us buy cat food and shoes and groceries! Frankly, it has been a really rough year for our family, and part of that has been financial hardship. I know we are not the only ones in that boat, which is why I create as many free posts as possibile. Maybe someday I’ll be able to afford to make them all free and accessible to all! That’s the real dream.
In the meantime, please help if you can. Subscribe! Subscribe! Upgrade! Share!
And if you want to help out but you can’t commit to a monthly amount right now (or man, I get it). You can always make a one time donation to my work on venmo.
Ok, thank you all such much! Thank you for your patience and your support! I’ll see you later this week for more of our usual sort of fun.
